Sunday Best

The First Family attended Sunday church services at Saint John's Church in Washington, D.C. this weekend. For the outing, Mrs. O wore a deep plum Alaia dress and jacket, paired with tall black boots. The dress was first seen during an Oprah special in 2009, here.

I love how as a family their fashion always looks harmonious. Maybe an outward reflection of their inner strength. I also had to note that Sasha seems to have really grown - hard to believe she's the same little girl from the first inauguration. Love this family - hope they are finding peace despite such a tumultuous lifestyle.

Lovely colour coordinated family outing.

Quite an unexpected look! I'm glad to see our First Family out and about. An interesting look. I'm loving Mrs. Obama's hair with the part in the middle. Can't wait to see what she wears on Thursday!

Not one of her best looks. I think the dress is too short and not really appropriate for church.

Isn't it nice that the girls, at their "advanced" ages, will still hold hands with their parents in public, 8-). The plum is certainly a glorious color.

Oh, good, still available to add to, 8-) -- found GREAT pics of all of these at HuffPo http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2013/10/27/michelle-obama-daughters-photos_n_4167908.html?utm_hp_ref=michelle-obama

"Tall black books?" :) Either way love your blog. And love love Mrs. O! She is just the coolest FLOTUS we've had in a long time.

So great to see them all out together -- feels as if it's been a long time. They look wonderful as always. I so like this outfit on Michelle, and the girls look just lovely. Let's hope the upcoming holiday season brings lots of good fashion photo ops!

Can we say elegant? Yes we can!

I like what the girls are wearing but Michelle's outfit just doesn't work for me. Maybe it's the neckline of her dress? I liked it better with the pearls. Or maybe it's the above the knee boots? I can't quite put my finger on it.

This not Michelle's best look and I definitely did not like it for church. Malia is beautiful and striking and looks radiant. Obama is a proud dad. Look how he is smiling.

The past few weeks have been really difficult for the President, it is so lovely to see that in spite of everything, he makes time to pray with his family. I love this family.

Both daughters look better than the First Lady in this case! She looks too girly, with the hair, the too short skirt, the too much decolleté, and the high boots.

I'm with you BB. In fact I'd go as far as to say that this is one of her worst sartorial choices and combinations ever.

She continues to make the most compelling argument for quality designer pieces not as disposable, frivolous indulgences, but as smart, fun, enduring, practical and great investment pieces--
The way she re-wears her clothes, effortlessly making them look even better and fresher years later, is wickedly impressive -- just like the amazing woman herself---
I just read a speech she recently gave at a Women's Leadership Forum in Washington; inspiring, incisive and compelling as always--
She's a wise, brilliant and powerfully gifted woman--
A very complete woman in the very best sense---
I remain unyieldingly and unapologetically in awe of Mrs Obama---
--And yes, completely unabashed in my respectful obsession with her---

I love this blog! Thank you for chronicling the fashion iconic-ness that is Michelle Obama. (Is iconic-ness a word? LOL)

From the Tracy Reese Facebook page:
This past weekend, First daughters Sasha and Malia Obama attended church sporting their Sunday best! Sasha is seen in a plenty by Tracy Reese frock made exclusively for Anthropologie, while Malia donned a bold Tracy Reese hourglass coat in black and white checkers. Tell us what you think about the First Family’s fall style!

Love the colors. Love the family, and love that they represent my America. Love the style, but the décolletage might not be entirely appropriate for the church I attend. (A little distracting!)

Sweet, sweet family!!! My favorite pictures and videos will always be those with just the two of them (President with First Lady), followed closely by the family ones!!! This is exactly what sealed it for me in 2008 and again in 2012!!! Yes people, being a good politician isn't enough to get my vote. You need to be a seriously devoted and great spouse and parent as far as I'm concerned!!! May I just say how much I love the First Lady's boots too!!! Great alternative in cold weather for a lady who has been clear about not loving tights. She's yummy cool and I seriously adore her!!! Count me in too as another one of the proudly and permanently obsessed and stalking the First Lady crowd!!! I do seriously love my First Lady!!! She ROCKS!!!

I do believe those boots are Alaia too!!! She's worn them several times over the years including to the Veterans Day observances at the Arlington Cemetery in 2011, Joe Biden's mother's funeral and a Let's Move event in January 2011 too!!! Just google-scoured and voila!!!

@ Soccernana-Did your parents really name you Soccer Nana? Or are you registered to this site and using a fake name? What is your obsession with unregistered users? As I said in a previous post I believe privacy trumps speedy posting. Now, I must admit I like your style and I hope you don't mind my imitating it to respond to Elroy---goodpoliticiandoesnotequalgoodpresidentgoodpoliticiandoesequal goodleader.
Now I will wait days to see if Mrs T posts this, but it is worth it to me to maintain my privacy. At least I give my real name-at least the first part of it.

Everyone looks lovely. I feel sorry for the girls though. They must get tired of being photographed all the time.

Wednesday, October 30, 2013 at 11:09 AM | Registered CommenterKathie

I usually like Mrs. Obama's choices and hate to be a downer, but am having a hard time seeing how a plunging neckline, short hemline and stripper-like over the knee boots are appropriate for church. What's with that?

Wednesday, October 30, 2013 at 12:35 PM | Unregistered CommenterDana

The neckline is a strange choice for church services. It looks more like evening wear. The color is beautiful.

Thursday, October 31, 2013 at 12:58 AM | Unregistered Commenterchar

The Obama girls do not get photographed all the time. They are only photographed at White House events, going to church and on vacation. There are usually no more than 15 photos of them a year.

@Jeannette Davila-
Thank you so much for sharing the designer the Obama daughters are wearing -- Tracey Reese is very talented --
That's really the point -- getting to know who the designers are -- and where to buy the pieces we find and love here--
Thanks again -- and excuse the rampant 18th century mindset and priggish attempts at shaming a perfectly lovely, vibrant, healthy, fit, alive woman for not wearing a turtle neck, maxi skirt and shroud---
And even if she had, there'd still be those who'd still take issue with it -- including some of the "neckline" police -- If it isn't one thing, its the other ---
So in the end, the very insightful and wise subject of this blog says it best:

"--Women, wear what you love--" -Michelle Obama; January 2011
It's as simple as that--

This is a much better photo of the family as well as FLOTUS walking to church services http://obamadiary.files.wordpress.com/2013/10/2013-10-27t153034z_1201450066_gm1e9ar1t4401_rtrmadp_3_usa.jpg?w=852&h=619. Mrs. Obama looks absolutely stunning. The neckline police should take a seat in the back of the room with the other haters.
